Electrolysis FAQ
How does electrolysis work?
Electrolysis has been around for more than 100 years, and is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. The process works by using a fine probe to deliver a gentle electrical current into each hair follicle, which destroys the hair root and prevents future growth.
What should I expect during my complimentary consultation?
During your consultation your licensed practitioner will explain, in detail, the entire process, review pre and post treatment care, and answer any questions you might have. If you should decide to proceed with electrolysis treatments, you will complete a medical history form, and a personalized treatment plan will be discussed based on your specific needs and goals.
What areas of my body can be treated?
The most common areas to be treated are on the face, but any part of the body can be treated with electrolysis.
It can be performed safely on all skin tones and hair types, including red, white, and gray hair.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
*Stop shaving 3-4 days prior to your electrolysis appointment.
*Gentle exfoliation of the area being treated will help to open the hair follicles and assist in the process of electrolysis.
*Arrive freshly showered with completely clean skin. Please avoid perfumes, lotions, oils, and deodorants on the skin the day of treatment.
*Avoid waxing, plucking, and threading, as these temporary methods of hair removal distort the hair follicles, making electrolysis more difficult.
Electrolysis is most effective when the hair is in the active growing stage and present in the follicles, therefore shaving is the only method of hair removal recommended before, and during the time between treatments.
What should I expect after my treatment?
You may experience redness and swelling in the area after treatment. This reaction is normal and usually lasts 1-2 hours.
*Avoid all other temporary hair removal methods for the entire duration while receiving electrolysis treatments, including waxing, plucking, and threading.
*Keep the are clean and avoid make-up and harsh products for 24-48 hours after treatment.
*Avoid excessive sweating, tanning and direct sun exposure for 24-48 hours after treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number varies, but multiple and consistent treatments are needed to achieve permanency. Your licensed electrologist will create a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs and goals to ensure the most effective result.
How much does electrolysis cost?
Electrology sessions start at $50, and vary according to the size of the area being treated, how much hair needs to be removed, and the length of each session. During your consultation a treatment plan will be discussed based on these factors and your desired goals.
